Coolness factor according to my 5 years old: 10/10
Yes, I know, dinosaurs are the coolest thing on earth. And Lego dino? You get a winner

With 793 pieces, the Dino Defense HQ is the largest set of the series. It features 3 dinosaurs with among others and imposing 6 inches tall t-rex

3- Alien Conquest

The Lego men of Earth have built vehicles and wear special space suits to protect themselves from the Lego Aliens of Planet X2.5.

The alien figures have large heads and looks like they are out of one of those kitshy 1950’s “mars attack” movie types.

Some sets includes sounds and light effect and you’ll need batteries.

Coolness factor according to my son: 8/10, the lights and sound effects are a nice little extra.

4- Super Heroes

Who does not love superheroes? Lego Superheroes include popular figures from Marvel (Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and more) as well as from DC (Batman, Superman, Catwoman, the Joker, Robin, Poison Ivy, Bane, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Two Face, and more).

Both comic lines have vehicles and scenery backdrops.

Coolness factor according to my 5 years old: 8/10 (he doesn’t much care about the DC line. He’s into Marvel).

5- TV and Movie-Based Lego Characters

One of the reasons that Lego is anticipated to be a best seller for Christmas 2012 is the variety of familiar characters from movie and TV shows that are available. Star Wars Lego has always been a popular item for collectors, but other popular sets include Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings (and The Hobbit), and even Spongebob Squarepants.

These types of Lego sets make a great gift for fans of the show or movie, even if they stay unopened on the shelf as a collector item. In most cases, the collector sets are not recommended for children under 6 because they do have small pieces and the instructions for assembly can be rather complicated.

But that didn’t stop my son from adding a few to his Christmas list.

He gives 10/10 for cool factor, except for the Spongebob set.

  1. My family made fun of me because I have the Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl Lego set on my Amazon birthday wishlist this year. Legos are for geeky-grown-ups too! :)

  2. Yes they are, some of these Legos are a challenge to do and look stunning. I want some of the new The Hobbit Legos (my son is too young for these so I cannot even pretend it’s for him)
