You know what’s great about Legos? Everything!
Need some more specific reasons why Legos are a great Christmas gift?
- There is no gender bias. Unlike monster trucks and baby dolls, Legos are a great gift for girls and boys.
- They are a toy with a purpose! Legos are good for creativity and constructive learning.
- Nobody outgrows Legos. They grow with you!
Well, there’s no need to convince you that Legos are an awesome Christmas gift this year. Unfortunately, the choices are… overwhelming (to say the least). Remember when Legos were just colorful blocks used to build fun structures? These days, the options are just too overwhelming; so we’ve put together a list to help you find the Best Legos for Christmas 2012.…
Top 4 Best Legos For Younger Children:
The Monster Legos are fun for younger children, focusing on traditional movie monsters including ghosts, a sea monster, a vampire and his bride, a mummy, a Frankenstein and mad scientist, zombies, and much more.
Of course, your child will also want a monster fighter to battle the old fashioned creatures, so be sure to also grab a doctor, construction worker, safari shooter, rock star, or the sharp shooting woman with cross bow!
This Lego set includes a variety of dinosaurs that fly, run, and eat meat (except for the Triceratops). There are also humans with all types of cool vehicles and accessories providing hours of entertainment for younger boys.
Duplos are ideal for introducing younger children to the Lego style of toy. They are larger than traditional Legos (meaning they hurt much less to step on, and they’re less of a choking hazard for smaller children). There are also familiar characters (Disney’s Cars are popular with younger boys, Disney’s Princesses are popular with younger girls) and animal sets, city scenes, trains, and more.
2- Super Heroes
What little boys does not love superheroes? Lego Superheroes include popular figures from Marvel (Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and more) as well as from DC (Batman, Superman, Catwoman, the Joker, Robin, Poison Ivy, Bane, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Two Face, and more). There are vehicles and scenery backgrounds for each Lego superhero.. Both comic lines have vehicles and scenery backdrops.
Best Legos for Older Children
Legos meet action figures with Ninjago, including “good guys” that look like Ninjas and “bad guys” that look more like reptiles. They are put to battle in arenas (sold separately) and can move from one place to another in different vehicles. They are predicted to be one of the most popular Lego sets for Christmas 2012 and in addition to the figures there are also movies, video games, and an iPhone app.
2- Lego Friends
Perfect for older girls who love Lego (but not Batman or Star Wars), Lego Friends include 5 teenage girls with their own unique accessories including a veterinary office, stables, coffee shops, gardens, or a home. There are also six online games featuring Lego Friends, who reside in a fictional city called HeartLake.
For teenagers and older children, Lego Architecture sets are designed for teenagers and older children who enjoy building structures but have outgrown Harry Potter. There are several varieties of landmarks and buildings available, and each set portrays a very stunning accuracy to the original inspiration.
Each Architecture Lego set also includes a booklet describing the history of the original building as well as actual photos of the inside and outside. These are great toys for older children because they have so much fun they might not realize they are also learning!
The Lego men of Earth have built vehicles and wear special space suits to protect themselves from the Lego Aliens of Planet X2.5. The alien figures have large heads but include smaller figures to help with their attach, delivering hours of entertainment for pre-teenaged boys.
For something a little different, Bionicles (yes, there’s a movie about them too!) look more like action figures. They can be customized and are a good choice for older kids.
6- TV and Movie-Based Lego Characters
One of the reasons that Lego is anticipated to be a best seller for Christmas 2012 is the variety of familiar characters from movie and TV shows that are available. Star Wars Lego has always been a popular item for collectors, but other popular sets include Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings (and The Hobbit), and even Spongebob Squarepants. These types of Lego sets make a great gift for fans of the show or movie, even if they stay unopened on the shelf as a collector item. In most cases, the collector sets are not recommended for children under 6 because they do have small pieces and the instructions for assembly can be rather complicated.
What are your best legos? I look forward to the new The Hobbit movie Legos.
